Allen healthy and taking part in OTAs

INDIANAPOLIS -- There was a familiar face out on the practice field running routes, catching passes and blocking for the Indianapolis Colts during their organized team activities (OTAs) late Thursday morning.

Tight end Dwayne Allen s ready to make up for lost time from missing almost the entire 2013 season. His surgically repaired hip is good to go.

"It felt real good," Allen said. "Everybody talked about the Colts getting Dwayne Allen back, my focus has been getting back to the Colts. It’s been a long season, a long offseason to sit on the sidelines watching the guys going out there and playing. I enjoyed being out there running around and catching balls."

Allen’s second season came to an end when he landed awkwardly on his hip after going up for a pass from quarterback Andrew Luck that Oakland’s Kevin Burnett tipped in Week 1.

Allen said the hip surgery has given him the best range of motion that he’s had in his career at any level.

"Now I can take steps that I couldn’t take before," he said. "It’s all about getting a feel for the steps I want to take. The run-blocking game, pass-blocking game, also on my release and route running. The internal and external rotation with my hips is great. It feels a lot better to get down in a stance and run out of the stance."
