A weekly examination of the Jaguars’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 29 | Last Week: 32 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
It took 11 weeks, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have finally crawled out of the cellar in the ESPN.com Power Rankings. Sunday’s victory over the Houston Texans moved the Jaguars (2-9) up one spot to No. 31 -- ahead of the Texans (2-9).
Two of the six voters actually had the Jaguars No. 30: Ashley Fox and Jamison Hensley. Kevin Seifert, John Clayton and Dan Graziano ranked the Jaguars 31st. One other voter, Mike Sando, still ranked the Jaguars last and had the Texans 31st.
Here’s how Sando explained his vote:
"First off, I really respect the way the Jaguars are competing. Gus Bradley is someone I respect. It's cool to see the team get positive results. Rankings-wise, I do think Jaguars would be an underdog on a neutral field against every team in the league. It's a credit to them that they've won a couple games, anyway. But I can say I try to be consistent on these things. For example, the Chiefs were fourth on my ballot when they were undefeated and I moved them down to sixth after their bye, mostly because other teams passed them. They've lost their last two and I haven't really had to move them down much."
