Chiefs will lose Ballard sooner or later

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard is a bright, young NFL scout who will someday become an NFL general manager. That time isn’t now.

Ballard decided he didn't wish to pursue the general manager’s job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ballard wouldn’t have had final say on personnel matters in Tampa, so the Chiefs could have blocked Ballard from interviewing or accepting the job.

Sooner or later, the Chiefs will lose Ballard. He joined the Chiefs only last year after working for the Chicago Bears for 12 years, first as an area scout and later as the director of pro scouting.
