KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The NFL is a quarterback-driven league so the notion, on the surface at least, seems ridiculous. But bear with me here for a minute. If you’re going to start a franchise with any one player from around the league, why not Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles?
Charles carried his team to the playoffs much as the Denver Broncos’ Peyton Manning, the winner of the NFL Nation’s survey on the topic. Charles was third in the league in rushing, second in yards from scrimmage, first in touchdowns. All this for a team with precious little going for it offensively except for Charles. Imagine what he could do for a team with enough offensive threats to the point defenses couldn’t lie in wait for Charles on every play.
So, when building a franchise, Charles doesn’t seem like a bad place to start.
