Young player to watch: G Zach Fulton

Here we'll continue a series looking at four unheralded players who have a reasonable shot to make the Kansas City Chiefs' regular-season roster with a strong showing at training camp.

G Zach Fulton

How acquired: Sixth-round draft pick, 2014.

Looking ahead: Fulton spent plenty of time during offseason practice as the starter at right guard. He split time with Rishaw Johnson, but the Chiefs wouldn't waste precious practice snaps on him if they didn't think he was ready to play. So it appears he will challenge for a starting spot at training camp and in the preseason. His readiness to play was difficult to gauge in the offseason because linemen need to be in pads in order to make the best evaluation. But he already showed a grasp on techniques that are often advanced for low-round draft picks, such as combination blocks.

Possible role: Fulton could wind up as the starter in the season's first regular-season game. If not, it's probably not long before he finds his way into the lineup.
