Chargers RB Branden Oliver, LB Jatavis Brown do not practice Wednesday

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Three Los Angeles Chargers did not practice on Wednesday as the team begins preparations for the Bolts' second road game of the season, an East Coast trip to face the New York Giants.

Running back Branden Oliver (hamstring), right tackle Joe Barksdale (foot) and linebacker Jatavis Brown missed practice because of injury, according to the team’s injury report.

Barksdale has been nursing a foot injury since training camp and did not play two weeks ago against the Kansas City Chiefs because of it. Michael Schofield replaced Barksdale at right tackle against the Chiefs.

Brown injured his ankle in the opening quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, but played through the pain. Brown told reporters this week that he's OK and expects to play against the Giants.

Brown leads the Chargers and is second in the league with a combined 41 tackles.

Oliver showed up for the first time on the injury report with a hamstring injury, opening the door for the Chargers to use undrafted rookie Austin Ekeler more this weekend if the Buffalo product can't get healthy.

Ekeler scored his first career NFL touchdown against the Eagles on a 35-yard run.

The Chargers also added running back LeShun Daniels to the practice squad, replacing departed defensive end Whitney Richardson.

At 6-foot and 225 pounds, Daniels ran for 85 yards during preseason play for the New England Patriots and played his college ball at Iowa, where he totaled 1,895 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns in 37 career games.

Left guard Matt Slauson (tricep) and rookie receiver Mike Williams (back) were limited participants on Wednesday, while running back Melvin Gordon (knee), tight end Sean McGrath (foot), tackle Russell Okung (groin) and receiver Tyrell Williams (neck) were full participants.
