Elite point guard prospect Ray McCallum Jr. (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) is staying home to play for his father, Ray McCallum, at the University of Detroit. McCallum, the No. 17 overall player in the 2010 class, made the announcement live on ESPNU, choosing the Titans over UCLA, Arizona and Florida.
UCLA coach Ben Howland had been targeting McCallumfor quite some time, but as the process stretched out, the chances that McCallum would stay close to home seemed more and more likely.
Point guard remains a position of need for the Bruins. Rising junior Jerime Andersonshould get the first shot at the starting spot in the fall. JUCO transfer Lazeric Jones (John A. Logan College) will add depth.
