Darxia Morris plays in pre-draft camp

Senior guard Darxia Morris, UCLA's leading scorer last season, participated in a pre-WNBA draft camp over the weekend in Indianapolis, where the NCAA Women's Final Four is being held.

Morris was an All-Pac-10 selection, leading the Bruins with a 12.2 points average. She started all 33 games, averaging 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next," Morris said in a statement. "These last four years at UCLA have been great in preparing me for the next level."

If selected, Morris would become the ninth UCLA player taken in the WNBA Draft. The last was Lindsey Pluimer, who in 2008 was chosen with the 20th overall pick by the Washington Mystics.

Former UCLA assistant coaches Tasha Butts and Tony Perotti, whom will join departed head coach Nikki Caldwell's staff at LSU, were both in Indianapolis to support Morris, according to the statement released by the school.

"I was very proud of and for (Darxia)," Butts said. "She showcased what makes her special in a very high-level environment. She was competitive, energized, poised, and was excited for the opportunity to showcase her talent and skills for the WNBA coaches."

The WNBA draft will be held next Monday, April 11. It will be televised by ESPN beginning at noon PT.
