Women's golf leads NCAA regional

UCLA's women's golf team shot a four-player total of three-over par 291 Thursday and has a four-shot lead after the first round of the NCAA central regional at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.

UCLA, ranked No. 2 in the nation, is four ahead of No. 8 Louisiana State and seven ahead of No. 26 Notre Dame. Bruins freshman Ani Gulugian shot one-under 71 and is tied with Notre Dame freshman Nicole Zhang atop the individual leaderboard.

UCLA sophomore Lee Lopez shot 72 and is tied for third in the individual race. Stephanie Kono and Glory Yang each shot 74 to round out the scoring for the Bruins.

The top eight teams after the third round on Saturday will advance to the NCAA championships May 18-21 at Tradition's Club in Bryan, Tex.
