On the second day of a 10-day downpour of watch-list announcements, USC had its eighth player honored when center Khaled Holmes made the Rimington Trophy watch list Tuesday.
But, in somewhat of a surprise, the Trojans were also shut out of the Mackey Award watch list, with tight ends Randall Telfer and Xavier Grimble missing out in favor of Pac-12 counterparts Joseph Fauria, Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Levine Toilolo. USC's tandem probably hurt the individuals' national notoriety some.
Seven other Trojans were named to watch lists Monday.
For Holmes, it's his second straight time on the list, after making it preemptively last July, before he'd ever suited up at center in college. Now, he's considered one of the favorites to win it as a redshirt senior in 2012.
The Lou Groza and Ray Guy award watch lists come out Wednesday, and USC will surely have at least one player named then.
