Horton, Kennard on Hendricks watch list

USC seniors Wes Horton and Devon Kennard are on the Hendricks Award watch list announced Monday, which goes annually to the country's best defensive end.

The trophy, in its 11th year, is named after former Miami defensive end Ted Hendricks.

The Trojans are one of five schools to have two defensive ends on the list. The others are Texas, LSU, Florida State and South Carolina.

Of course, Kennard is unlikely to challenge for the award because of a torn pectoral muscle that he underwent surgery for earlier Monday. It will likely keep him out until November at the earliest and could be a season-ending injury.

Horton, a fifth-year player, will be a focal point of the USC defensive line this season.

Illinois end Whitney Mercilus, a 2012 first-rounder, won the Hendricks Award last year.
