Barkley named to O'Brien Award watch list

USC sophomore quarterback Matt Barkley was named to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list today, earning his first preseason honors of the 2010 season.

Barkley was named an O'Brien Award semifinalist a year ago after finishing his freshman season with 2,732 yards passing and 15 touchdowns.

He's one of four Pac-10 quarterbacks on the list, alongside Washington's Jake Locker, Stanford's Andrew Luck and Arizona' Nick Foles. Both Locker and Luck are widely projected to be likely first-round selections in the 2011 NFL draft.

Barkley is one of only three true sophomores to make the 30-man list; Rutgers' Tom Savage and SMU's Kyle Padron are the others.
