After Monday's practice, coach Lane Kiffin said a neck injury to starting guard Khaled Holmes could be serious, comparing it to a similar injury to former Trojans linebacker Jarvis Jones.
But Holmes said he was confident, after meeting with doctors and reviewing MRI exam results, that he will return soon, possibly as soon as the Hawaii game Sept. 2. He described the injury as a "stinger." Holmes described it as a "day-to-day-type thing."
Asked about the difference between his and Kiffin's views, Holmes said, "It might have just been trouble with communication. We're as optimistic as you can be after seeing the MRI."
