Redshirt freshman receiver Kyle Prater suffered a fractured foot in offseason workouts this week and is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks, USC announced Friday.
Prater had been expected to compete for a starting job with incoming freshman George Farmer and senior Brandon Carswell in spring practice across from Robert Woods, but this latest injury will likely be a significant setback to that end. Prater's injury may or may not require surgery,
The 6-foot-5, 215-pound receiver was a highly-touted prospect of a suburban Chicago high school last year and enrolled at USC in January to very high expectations. He performed well in spring practice despite a number of nagging injuries but ended up redshirting the season after a thigh injury prevented him from going full-strength in fall camp.
Spring practice begins March 22 for USC and ends with the annual spring game April 23.
