Mark Trumbo to start in left field

ANAHEIM -- Mark Trumbo's third base experiment took a left turn Friday night as he was set to make his first outfield start of the season against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. Trumbo has made only three starts at third through 13 games, but manager Mike Scioscia remains adamant that Trumbo will get his share of opportunities at the position.

"He's definitely comfortable at corner outfield as opposed to third base but, still, he has the ability to be a major league third baseman," Scioscia said.

Trumbo has committed three errors but boasts a .386 batting average. He said reading the ball off the bat is his biggest position switch adjustment.

"It's about making the plays I need to make," he said.

With Trumbo in left, usual starter Vernon Wells moved to center and Peter Bourjos, hitting a meager .206 and in the middle of a 2-for-17 slump, got the night off.
