It was another step in the right direction for the Angels in the last seven days as they went 4-2 to get to four games below .500.

Seven Down

Trout starting to swim

Mike Trout has injected some energy into the offense. After starting the season 4-22, the phenom is 7-16 in his last four games including his first homer of the season. Trout has feasted on offspeed pitches, going 5-10 on the season with two doubles.

Sluggers slumping

Albert Pujols has his home-run drought behind him, but he’s still batting just .198 on the season. Wednesday’s two-hit effort was his first since April 19th.

Meanwhile, Torii Hunter, who got off to a strong start to the season is just 1-23 in his last seven games.

All or nothing

Both of the Angels losses this past week were … you guessed it … shutouts. That makes seven times this season that they have failed to score. No other team has been shut out more than four times.

Yu Darvish

Opponent BA this season (>> Best in MLB (min. 75 curveballs)

First look at Yu

The Angels will get their first look at Yu Darvish today. He is 4-1 with a 2.54 ERA this season. Darvish is a man of many pitches, including two different curveballs. So far this season, the curves have been his best pitches as opponents are hitting just .059 in at-bats ending with curves. Hitters have missed on half their swings against Darvish's curveball and 22 of the rookie's 44 strikeouts this season have ended with curveballs.

What the Angels should do is be aggressive with his fastball. Opponents have hit .344 this season in at-bats ending with Darvish's fastball.

Wilson returns to old stomping ground

C.J. Wilson takes on his former teammates for the first time. The only Rangers who have faced Wilson are Adrián Beltré (.368 BA, HR), Mike Napoli (.222 BA, HR), Josh Hamilton (0-1) and Yorvit Torrealba (0-1).

Wilson is 27-14 in his career at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington with a 3.89 ERA.
