LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Clippers signed guard Maalik Wayns to a 10-day contract, the team announced Saturday.
Wayns averaged 12.4 points and 3.0 assists in nine games, including three starts, for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League this season.
The 6-foot-2, undrafted Villanova product started the season in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and appeared in 21 games. In those 21 games, including one start, he averaged 2.7 points and 1.0 assist in 7.8 minutes of play.
Wayns is not expected to see much, if any, playing time and was mainly brought in as a practice player while guards Eric Bledsoe (left calf) and Jamal Crawford (left ankle) are day-to-day with their injuries and are being held out of practice.
“We got some guys out and we need some bodies for practice,” Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. “We have some practices coming up and we needed another body. Maalik is a good kid and he plays hard but mainly we need the bodies are right now.”
