LHP Rodriguez placed on 15-day DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers put left-handed reliever Paco Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with a teres major strain Tuesday and recalled reliever Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Rodriguez's injury is the same one that kept Clayton Kershaw out for five weeks, but an MRI indicated a less severe injury for Rodriguez, according to the pitcher, who is hoping to get back in time to make a push for the Dodgers' post-season roster. Despite a strong 2013 season, the team left him off its' NLCS roster against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Rodriguez said he felt discomfort under his left arm pit after throwing in the bullpen Monday.

"When I heard the news, it was terribly disappointing," Rodriguez said. "I just want to come back and help the team in whatever way possible."

Baez, 26, has made just two major-league appearances. He was 2-1 with 12 saves and a 3.86 ERA for Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Albuquerque combined.

Rodriguez made just one appearance after his call-up, pitching two scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. He was a stalwart in the Dodgers' bullpen last season, but has appeared in just 13 games this year.
