Bumgarner became the only player with multiple home runs off Kershaw since the start of last season, when he crushed a blast into the left-field seats in the second inning of Saturday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. The blast gave the Giants a temporary 1-0 lead.
The matchup between two of the best pitchers in the game was anticipated for what each would do on the mound, but Bumgarner upped the ante.
Other factoids of note:
Bumgarner is the only pitcher to ever hit a home run off Kershaw.
Kershaw has allowed 11 home runs over his past 27 starts and two of those are to the Giants’ staff ace.
Going back to the 2008 season, Bumgarner is now the sixth player to hit home runs off Kershaw in back-to-back seasons.
