Long Beach Poly coach Carl Buggs was quick to praise the play of Clovis West after Saturday's Division I regional title game. The Jackrabbits of Long Beach beat the Golden Eagles handily, 68-53, but Buggs said he saw plenty of fight in Clovis:
Eagles coach Craig Campbell, who had helped lead his team to 19 straight victories, said the Jackrabbits were as good as advertised. He said he knew few outside of Clovis gave the Eagles a chance heading into Saturday's game, but was proud of his team's performance regardless:
Long Beach Poly center Sheila Boykin, who turned 17 today, said Clovis West's Janae Coffee challenged her all game long in the post. Coffee recorded totals of 14 points and 10 rebounds; Boykin had 14 and seven rebounds. Boykin, a 6-foot junior, said she was focused on Coffee from start to finish.
