The Oaks Christian football team and coaches marched from their campus in Westlake Village to Westlake High School before the game between the two teams Thursday night.
Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell said he was hoping to start a tradition of walking to their crosstown rivals campus. Both teams play in the Marmonte League and are separated by less than a mile.
But Redell might want to rethink his plans after his team lost to Westlake, 43-21. Westlake is 2-1 against Oaks Christian since the two teams started playing each other last year.
Oaks Christian is a private school and competing in its second year in the Marmonte League. The Lions won the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division championship last year.
Westlake is a public school and won the Northern Division championship in 2009.
Cheerleaders, parents and teachers joined the Oaks Christian football players and coaches in the march to Westlake High School. About 200 people participated in the walk.
