Windward's Jordan Wilson was the hero Wednesday night, sending the Wildcats' quarterfinal game against San Jose Archbishop Mitty into overtime. But Wilson wasn't done, as he dominated the extra period and carried his team to a 73-71 upset victory.
Windward advanced to the Holiday Classic basketball tournament's National Division semifinal and will face Woodland Hills Taft on Thursday night at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego.
Wilson, a junior point guard, banked in a tying 3-pointer with one second remaining in regulation, and then scored the game's final six points on aggressive drives to the basket.
Archbishop Mitty, the defending Division II state champion, went into the game ranked No. 16 in the POWERADE FAB 50 national rankings. Windward (6-4) won the Division IV state title last year.
Two other south Los Angeles County schools were pushed to the loser's bracket. St. Bernard fell to Newark (Calif.) Memorial, 57-49, and Mayfair was blown out by DeMatha (Md.), 83-47.
