No. 9 Serra 54, No. 6 Bish. Mont. 43

Senior center Daddy Ugbede had 24 points and 14 rebounds Wednesday night to help Gardena Serra clinch at least a share of the Del Rey League title with a 54-43 victory over visiting Bishop Montgomery. Serra improved to 22-2 overall and 6-0 league, increasing its lead in the standings to two games with two games remaining.

The Cavaliers can claim the championship outright with a win Friday at home against Bishop Amat.

It was the third meeting of the season between Bishop Montgomery and Serra, ranked No. 6 and No. 9, respectively, by ESPN Los Angeles. The Cavaliers won the previous meeting, 51-47, on Jan. 13.

Ugbede, who made 11 of 17 field goal attempts, stepped up with senior guard Kajon Mack battling the flu. Serra led by only three heading into the fourth quarter but pulled away by buckling down on defense, holding Bishop Montgomery (18-3) to a season-low in points.
