The annual Foothill-Tustin rivalry is always a big deal to the schools involved, and this year's matchup on Friday will be made more attractive by what's taking place at halftime. Tustin will retire uniform No. 26 in honor of DeShaun Foster. Foster rushed for 3,998 yards and scored a state-record 59 touchdowns (54 rushing) as a senior in 1997, then went to UCLA and the NFL.
Part of the allure of Foster's prep greatness was his final game, which is commonly referred to as the "DeShaun Foster-Carson Palmer game," which matched the Tustin running back against the Santa Margarita quarterback in the 1997 Division V championship. Santa Margarita won the game, 55-42 in what is one of the greatest games in county history; Foster rushed for 377 yards and six touchdowns.
