ANAHEIM -- Now that's a good example of brotherly love.
Siblings Dion and Brian Wright played about as well as they possibly could during Saturday afternoon's Southern Section Division 2A championship game. The brothers ended up combining for 33 points to guide Lakewood Mayfair to an impressive 60-45 victory over Santa Maria Righetti in a championship game at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.
"We took care of business today,'' said Dion, who finished with 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. The 6-foot-7 senior added 13 rebounds and pair of blocks in 30 minutes of action.
Not to be outdone, Brian Wright scored 13 points for the top-seeded Monsoons (26-5). The junior did a good job of distributing the ball and had three assists with one turnover from his guard position.
"We're taking a title home to Mayfair on Monday,'' Brian Wright said.
The sixth-seeded Warriors (26-5) attempted to keep things close behind the play of Ryan McGready, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Marcos McMorris added 10 points of his own. Falling behind by 11 points at halftime to the Wright brothers and Mayfair, however, proved to be too much of a deficit to overcome.
