Some nice games this week, but without the glitz of football's opening weekend. One that's not on the board is Tustin at Upland; don't be surprised if the Tillers roll despite being a 27-point underdog.
Trabuco Hills (1-0) at Newport Harbor (0-0), Thursday, 7 p.m.
Trabuco Hills gave new coach Scott Orloff a victory in his debut, but it would be a real surprise if the Mustangs could get him off to a 2-0 start. Newport Harbor 28, Trabuco Hills 14
La Mirada (0-1) at No. 20 La Habra (0-1), Thursday, 7 p.m.
A matchup of section champions from 2009. Believe it or not, La Habra really is better for having played Orange Lutheran last week – despite losing. La Habra 42, La Mirada 21
No. 3 Mission Viejo (1-0) vs. No. 15 Loyola (1-0) at L.A. Valley College, Friday, 7 p.m.
The suspicion here is that Loyola will be much improved this season under first-year coach Mike Christensen, but not so much improved to beat the Diablos. Mission Viejo 31, Loyola 14
Santa Margarita (1-0) at Tesoro (1-0), Friday, 7 p.m.
This is a nice South County matchup, but anyone with a lick of sense knows this is all about attracting players to the program that wins this game. Without question, this is the Recruiting Bowl. Santa Margarita 35, Tesoro 21
St. Margaret's (1-0) at San Diego Francis Parker, Friday, 7 p.m.
A rematch of the game last season that determined the Small Schools representative from Southern California. St. Maggie's victory is a year too late. St. Margaret's 28, Parker 27
Last week: 4-1. Season: 4-1.
