This week's ESPNLA.com Top 25

ESPNLA.com's new prep football rankings have been published and there was little change at the top with Servite, Westlake, Mission Viejo, Lakewood and Serra maintaining the top five spots.

Meanwhile, there are six new teams in this week's rankings.

Here are some brief highlights of how things played out this week:

  • No. 1: Servite at 3-0 remained the top team in the rankings after an impressive defensive showing in 23-0 win over La Habra.

  • Biggest mover: Huntington Beach Edison went from being unranked to debuting at No. 13 after the Chargers improved to 3-0, including routs of Artesia and Long Beach Wilson and a quality victory over Dana Hills.

  • Honorable mention: Oaks Christian's 33-32 overtime win over St. Bonaventure vaulted the Lions up 10 spots to No. 14, one spot ahead of St. Bonaventure but still behind No. 12 Alemany, which defeated Oaks in its season opener.

  • Taking a tumble: Chaparral, which opened the season at No. 6, has taken over the title of best 0-2 team in the state (Crenshaw had it a week earlier). After the Pumas lost to Fresno Edison last week, they fell from No. 14 to No. 22 with a game against No. 6 Centennial looming. Yikes. No. 9 Orange Lutheran also dropped out after a 46-29 loss to Tustin.

  • Newcomers: Aside from Edison, Upland checks in at No. 18, San Clemente at No. 20, Eastvale Roosevelt at No. 23, Compton Dominguez at No. 24 and Encino Crespi at No. 25.

  • Dropped out: Dana Hills, a 27-21 loser to No. 13 Edison; Carson, a 56-14 loser to Santa Margarita; Loyola, a 35-28 loser to Newport Harbor; Riverside Arlington, which defeated Riverside Poly, 29-20; Orange Lutheran, a 46-29 loser to Tustin; and La Habra, a 23-0 loser to No. 1 Servite.
