SANTA ANA -- Mater Dei is in control at halftime of its Southern California state regional girls' basketball game against Villa Park. The Monarchs, the second-seeded team in Division II, hold a 49-20 lead.
And get this: Leading scorer Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has only two points.
Mater Dei has 15 from Jessica Duarte and nine from Jordan Adams and they look unbeatable. The Monarchs held a 6-4 lead when they went on a 25-4 run, 14-4 to close the first qurter. Only three-point baskets, by Villa Park's Brianna Salvatore and Nicole Ballestero, kept the score from being even more one-sided.
