The Camarillo baseball team started the season 1-3-1. Since losing to Cleveland of Reseda, 8-7, on March 12, Camarillo has won 15 games in a row.
Included in that streak is a 28-0 win over Hueneme, a 17-0 win over Palisades and a 13-0 win over Pacifica.
Camarillo is ranked eighth in this week’s CIF Southern Section Division I poll. The Scorpions beat Channel Islands, 5-1, on Friday to improve to 16-3-1 overall and 9-0 in the Pacific View League standings.
Hard 9 National Classic: Bishop Amat beat Esperanza, 12-1, in the championship game of the National Classic at Cal State Fullerton. It was the 20th win in a row for Bishop Amat.
Outfielder Wallace Gonzalez of Bishop Amat was selected as the most outstanding player of the tournament. Bishop Amat’s Jordan McCraney was the most outstanding pitcher and Esperanza outfielder Nick Catalano was the most outstanding offensive player of the tournament.
Alemany’s Corey Sims and Anthony Esparza earned spots on the all-tournament team. Other all-tournament selections included Raul Camas and Angel Rodriguez from Chatsworth, Tanner Reibenspies and Mathew Troupe from Chaminade.
Simi Valley no-hitter: Jacob Leyba tossed a no-hitter in a non-league game against Artesia. Simi won the game, 11-0, the first of a doubleheader. Simi Valley, No. 10 in the CIF Southern Section Division I poll, also won the second game, 8-3.
