Hart finally caught Valencia for first place in the Foothill League standings, then lost to West Ranch to drop a game behind the Vikings with two games to play.
Give Valencia credit though. Their bats have come alive in recent games. Valencia beat Saugus, 14-4, behind a pair of home runs from Trey Williams and AJ Balta. Williams also had two doubles against Saugus.
Hart meanwhile lost a nail-biter, 4-3, to West Ranch. Hart starter Tyler Glasnow and West Ranch’s Ryan Keller were locked in a pitcher’s duel. Glasnow struck out 12. Keller struck out nine, but got the win.
Hart gets another shot at West Ranch today. Valencia and Saugus meet again for the second time this week.
Marmonte League: Some are calling Simi Valley’s win over Westlake on Wednesday an upset. Simi’s win moved the Pioneers into a first-place tie with Westlake, but it wasn’t exactly an upset.
It was a blowout however. Simi won 12-1. Scott Hockenberry went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs. Ryan Tinkham homered and Simi starter Ryan Blakely got a complete-game win.
Newbury Park beat Moorpark, 7-4, and is a game behind Simi and Westlake in the Marmonte League standings. Joe Christian had three RBIs for Newbury Park.
West Valley League: The showdown between Chatsworth and El Camino Real turned into a gem for Angel Rodriguez.
The Chatsworth senior starter threw a three-hit shutout, winning 4-0. He had nine strikeouts and put his team in first place in the West Valley League standings. Chatsworth is 6-1 in league. El Camino dropped to 5-2 with the loss.
The two teams meet again today.
In other West Valley League games, Cleveland of Reseda beat Woodland Hills Taft, 4-3. G Allen knocked in the game-winning run with a single in the seventh inning. Taft’s Alex Sawelson hit a two-out home run to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Birmingham of Lake Balboa beat Granada Hills, 7-1. Birmingham starter Kevin Torres struck out nine.
