LA North: San Fernando 2, El Camino Real 1 in 10 innings

LOS ANGELES – San Fernando starter David Lira went the distance in a 2-1 extra-innings win over El Camino Real in the CIF City Section Division I semifinals at Dedeaux Field at USC on Wednesday night.

Lira struck out 11 and gave up only one run and three hits in 10 innings. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and walked only one batter.

Jose Reyes drove in the winning run with a one-out double in the top of the 10th inning that scored Willie Vazquez.

San Fernando took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. James An knocked in Vazquez with a two-out single.

El Camino tied the score, 1-1, in the sixth inning. Jake Mills hit an RBI triple that scored pinch runner JJ Crane.

El Camino starter Jose Cardona matched Lira pitch-for-pitch for the first eight innings. Cardona left the game after giving up one run on six hits. He struck out seven and walked one.

San Fernando, the sixth-seeded team in the playoffs, will play Chatsworth in the Division I championship game at Dodger Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Chatsworth, the top-seeded team in the playoffs, beat Birmingham, 4-1, in the other semifinal.
