Justin Bowie from Birmingham won the 110 hurdles at the CIF City Section track and field finals at Birmingham High School. He led his team to a second-place finish at the meet. Dorsey won the meet with 110 points. Birmingham was second with 36.5. Mario Castillo from Woodland Hills Taft won the 800. Saul Sanchez from Granada Hills won the 300 hurdles in 39.84 seconds. Malik Johnson from El Camino Real won the high jump and Alex Hamidzadeh from El Camino Real won the pole vault. Kevin Adekayade from Chatsworth won the long jump.
On the girls side, Lexis Lambert won two events, the 100 and the 200, and led Woodland Hills Taft to a second-place finish at the CIF City Section track and field finals. She won the 100 in 12.16 seconds and the 200 in 24.88 seconds. Carson won the meet with 93 points. Taft was second with 63 points. The Taft 4-x-100 relay team won in 47.59 seconds. Laurie Henigan from Taft won the 100 hurdles in 14.32 seconds. Thomesha Smith from Chatsworth won the shot put.
The Harvard-Westlake boys tennis team is in the CIF Southern Section Division I tennis final against top-seeded University. The two teams meet Wednesday at the Claremont Club. Harvard-Westlake eliminted second-seeded Palos Verdes in the semifinals and third-seeded Corona del Mar to reach the championship match. University is making its sixth straight appearance in a CIF championship match and has won three of the past four Division I titles.
The Viewpoint boys tennis team is in the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship match and will play Laguna Beach at the Claremont Club. Viewpoint is the reigning Division IV champ. Laguna Beach is the second-seeded team in the playoffs. The two teams met in last year’s Division IV semifinal. Viewpoint won, 10-8, before beating Rowland in the championship match. Viewpoint is undefeated in CIF championship matches at 5-0. The Patriots won four CIF titles in a row from 2004-07.
The Oaks Christian softball team is in search of its first CIF championship since 2004. The top-seeded Lions are in the semifinals and play No. 4 Chino Hills on Tuesday. Chino Hills knocked Oaks Christian out of the playoffs last year with a 5-0 shutout in the quarterfinals. Oaks Christian is in the midst of a five-game winning streak, including three in playoffs, and has outscored its opponents, 29-0, in that stretch.
