Orange County and LA South: No. 19 Santa Margarita 42, St. John Bosco 41 (OT)

BELLFLOWER -- The tough losses keep mounting for St. John Bosco, which battled to the wire only to fall short again, this time to Santa Margarita, 42-41, in overtime in a Trinity League game Friday.

The game ended when Santa Margarita sophomore River Cracraft knocked down a potential game-winning two-point conversion in overtime.

St. John Bosco (4-3, 0-3) had stormed to a 20-0 lead after the first quarter behind running back Martin Brown, who finished with 233 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Quarterback Rene Medina passed for 238 yards for the Braves.

Santa Margarita (7-1, 3-0) rallied in the second half behind backup sophomore quarterback Johnny Stanton, who replaced starter Adam Young after Young had to leave the game because of a shoulder injury in the third quarter.

Stanton passed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were to wide receiver Reiley Higgins, including a 15-yarder in the first overtime. Higgins finished with 131 receiving yards and the two scores. Stanton also ran for another touchdown.

The game went to overtime when Bosco blocked a potential winning field goal with two seconds left in regulation.

The victory for Santa Margarita sets up a showdown for the Trinity League title next Friday against Servite, ranked No. 1 by ESPNLA.com, at Saddleback College.
