For third time this season, the El Toro pitching staff shut out Tesoro, and the two-hitter by Chasen Ford on Thursday gave the Chargers the South Coast League title.
Ford struck out five as he beat the Titans, 4-0, for the second time this season. In three league games, El Toro outscored Tesoro, 17-0, including a 9-0 victory on Tuesday.
The win on Tuesday ensured that El Toro (24-6, 9-3), which is No. 7 in the Southern Section Division 1 rankings, would go into the playoffs next week as the league's first-place representative, but the win on Thursday gave the Chargers the title outright. Tesoro (18-10-1, 7-5) finished second.
Mitchell Volman, who had a grand slam in the earlier victory, scored twice and had an RBI on Thursday. He also had a double and triple.
Jonah Arenado had two RBIs and Jayson Yano one.
El Toro led, 1-0, before scoring three times in the sixth inning.
Coincidentally, El Toro scores six in the sixth on Tuesday, and all four of its runs in the sixth inning when the teams played on March 30.
Ford (10-0) faced only three batters over the minimum. In his last game against Tesoro, he pitched a one-hitter and faced only two batters over the minimum.
