Abby Wambach wins WSF award

Hermosa Beach's Abby Wambach was honored Wednesday night as Sportswoman of the Year for team sports at the Women's Sports Foundation's annual gala in New York.

Wambach was rewarded for her performance at last summer's Women's World Cup in Germany, in which she scored four times to lead the U.S. to the title game, and for her play for part of each of the last two Women's Professional Soccer seasons.

The big striker from Rochester, N.Y., is the U.S.'s World Cup all-time goals leader, with 13. She scored nine goals in 11 games last season to lead Boca Raton, Fla.-based magicJack into the WPS playoffs.
