MLS: Is Davis MVP? Becks says so

CARSON -- The Galaxy has an MLS Cup title-game date with the Houston Dynamo, but they won't have Brad Davis, who acknowledged he suffered a torn quadriceps muscle in Sunday's Eastern Conference triumph at Sporting Kansas City.

Davis might be picking up some hardware in L.A. anyway.

Galaxy star David Beckham mentioned in passing during his postgame session with the media that Davis has won Major League Soccer's MVP award.

Beckham is among three Galaxy candidates up for the honor, along with 2009 MLS MVP Landon Donovan and center back Omar Gonzalez.

The English star was asked about playing against Houston without Davis, and he replied: “I hope Brad's playing because he's a great professional and has been great this season. He's got the MVP, and rightly so, the service that he provides for their team.

“I don't know the extent of his injury, but I hope that it's not too serious, and I hope that he plays because he's a very good player, and it's disappointing if he doesn't because he's had a great season.”

A league spokesman wouldn't address Beckham's comments, noting that finalists for the league's awards would be announced Monday and that the league MVP would be announced on Nov. 18, two days before the MLS Cup final.
