David Beckham has been red-carded before -- he was pilloried after his sending off against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup -- but nothing like this.
The Galaxy star, in Britain to promote his new underwear line, revealed on ITV's late-night “Jonathan Ross Show” that he was shown red recently while preparing to watch one of his sons play in Los Angeles.
“I was watching the kids play the other day,” he said on Saturday's broadcast, according to a report in British tabloid Daily Mail. “It was the game just before they were playing. It was the younger kids of [9-year-old son] Romeo’s [Galaxy Academy] club, and they’re playing in the game and there was a penalty given. And the kids are 7 years old, and [the referee] sent the kid off.
“And I was like, 'Come on, he’s 7 years old, referee, you can’t send him off.' And he looked at me and was like, 'Yes, I can.' And I was like, 'OK, well, you can’t, he’s 7 years old.”
“And he came over and gave me a red card. He told me to get out of the park. For real.
“The gate was only 20 yards away, and I waited and went back in when my son’s game was on.”
Beckham also told Ross that he and his wife, Victoria, parents of three sons and a baby daughter, “might have one or two more [children]. you never know.”
