March 14/15: What to watch, where to go

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14

  • TELEVISION

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Napoli (Italy) at Chelsea (England)

Fox Soccer Channel, 12:30 p.m.

Fellow Londoners Arsenal nearly battled back from a 4-0 first-leg loss against AC Milan last week, and it should have gone to overtime. Chelsea's task isn't so severe -- Napoli's advantage is 3-1 -- but getting to the quarterfinals won't be easy. Replays: Fox Soccer Plus, 3 and 9 p.m.; Fox Deportes, 3 p.m.; Fox Sports West, 11:30 p.m.

Also

CSKA Moscow (Russia) at Real Madrid (Spain), Fox Sports West and Fox Deportes, 12:30 p.m.; Fox Soccer Plus, 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.; Fox Soccer Channel, 3 p.m.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Seattle Sounders (U.S.) at Santos Laguna (Mexico)

Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 5 p.m.

The Sounders pulled off a bit of a surprise in the first leg, taking an early lead (through UCLA alum David Estrada) and quickly answering Santos' goal (through UC Irvine alum Brad Davis) to pull out a 2-1 home win. Can they hold on against the Mexican Primera Division's first-place club? Replay: FSC, midnight.

COPA LIBERTADORES

Corinthians (Brazil) at Cruz Azul (Mexico)

Fox Deportes, 6 p.m.

The Cementeros won in Paraguay and romped at home against Tachira in their first two matches in South America's club championship. Now they get Group 6's other unbeaten team, in Mexico City.

Also

Deportivo Tachira (Venezuela) at Nacional (Paraguay), Fox Deportes, 4 a.m.

The Strongest (Bolivia) at Internacional (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 6 a.m.

Zamora (Venezuela) at Fluminense (Brazil), Fox Deportes, 10 p.m.

Vasco da Gama (Brazil) at Libertad (Paraguay), Fox Deportes, midnight

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Toronto FC (Canada) at Galaxy (U.S.)

Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46), 7 p.m.

L.A. rallied from an early deficit to claim a 2-2 draw in last week's first leg, in Toronto. A win or low-scoring draw (0-0 or 1-1) sends the Galaxy to the semifinals, and with attendance capped at 7,500, the screen is nearly everyone's best bet.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Toronto FC (Canada) at Galaxy (U.S.)

Home Depot Center (Carson), 7 p.m.

The Galaxy has home-field advantage in this quarterfinal series, after pulling out a tie in opener, but a tough weekend might deprive Bruce Arena of a few first-choice options. TFC has no such restrictions: MLS gave the Reds a bye in the first week of league play.

TV: Fox Soccer Channel and Telefutura (KFTR/Channel 46).

THURSDAY, MARCH 15

  • TELEVISION

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

Manchester United (England) at Athletic Bilbao (Spain)

GolTV, 11 a.m.

United had Champions League aspirations when the season began, but that didn't work out so well, and now the Red Devils are on the verge of elimination in Europe's No. 2 club competition, after a 3-2 home loss in the first leg of the round-of-16 series.

Also

Manchester City (England) at Sporting Clube (Portugal), GolTV, 1 p.m.

COPA LIBERTADORES

Olimpia (Paraguay) at Flamengo (Brazil)

Fox Deportes, 6 p.m.

The top two teams after two games tangle in a tight Group 2 of South America's club championship.

Also

Santos (Brazil) at Juan Aurich (Peru), Fox Deportes, 3:30 p.m.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Isidro Metapan (El Salvador) at Pumas UNAM (Mexico)

Galavision, 7 p.m.

Lester Blanco scored twice as the Salvadorans stunned the Mexico City giant in a quarterfinal first leg last week in Metapan. Second-leg success will be much more difficult.
