July 3/4: What to watch, where to go

TUESDAY, JULY 3

  • TELEVISION

2012 UEFA U-19 CHAMPIONSHIP

Serbia vs. France

GolTV, 8:30 a.m.

One European Championship out of the way -- with Spain claiming the Euro 2012 title again -- and now another one kicks off, for under-19 national teams. Spain is the reigning champs here, too. Replay: 2 p.m.

Also

Estonia vs. Portugal, GolTV, 10:30 a.m.

FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup qualifying

Portugal vs. Greece, Fox Soccer Plus, 5 a.m.

Italy vs. Israel, Fox Soccer Plus, 6 a.m.

Switzerland vs. England, Fox Soccer Plus, 8 a.m.

Russia vs. Czech Republic, Fox Soccer Plus, 9 a.m.

Spain vs. Netherlands, Fox Soccer Plus, 11 a.m.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

Chicago Fire at Houston Dynamo

MLS Direct Kick, 5:30 p.m.

The Dynamo are unbeaten in seven games at spanking-new BBVA Compass Field, unless you count that friendly against Valencia. And the Fire are on fire: three straight wins to climb within two points of third place in the Eastern Conference, four of second and six of the top spot.

Also

San Jose Earthquakes at Portland Timbers, MLS Direct Kick, 7:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 4

  • TELEVISION

COPA LIBERTADORES

Boca Juniors (Argentina) at Corinthians (Brazil)

Fox Deportes, 5:30 p.m.

Romarinho's late goal answered Faucundo Roncaglia's just a dozen minutes earlier, and Corinthians exited Buenos Aires with a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the final in South America's club championship. That gives it the advantage heading into the decisive clash in São Paulo.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

Seattle Sounders at Real Salt Lake

MLS Direct Kick, 7 p.m.

Here's a Fourth of July treat: Two struggling giants looking to right things in a Western Conference showdown. The Sounders haven't won in eight MLS games, since early May. RSL has dropped three in a row, the first two at home.

Also

Sporting Kansas City at Montreal Impact, MLS Direct Kick, 4 p.m.

Toronto FC at FC Dallas, MLS Direct Kick, 6 p.m.

Vancouver Whitecaps at Colorado Rapids, MLS Direct Kick, 6:30 p.m.

Philadelphia Union at Galaxy, KDOC/Channel 56 and KWHY/Channel 22, 7:30 p.m.

  • ON LOCAL FIELDS

USL PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE

Fresno Fuego at Ventura County Fusion

Ventura College, 1 p.m.

The Fusion are streaking to the Southwest Division title, but their aim is a second PDL crown in four years. With Gyasi Zardes, Francisco Lopez and Travis Bowen pouring in goals, that's doable. First they look for a sweep of last year's divisional champ.

USL W-League

Colorado Rush at Santa Clarita Blue Heat, Valencia High School (Valencia), 4 p.m.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

Philadelphia Union at Galaxy

Home Depot Center (Carson), 7:30 p.m.

The Galaxy are a Fourth of July tradition in So Cal -- this is their 17th annual “Fireworks Extravaganza,” and they usually do the job on the field, too, with just one loss since HDC opened in 2003. No David Beckham this time: He was suspended following that stupid yellow card in the weekend loss at San Jose.

TV: KDOC/Channel 56 (English) and KWHY/Channel 22 (Spanish).
