Luca Toni joins Juventus

Speculation that Luca Toni might join the Galaxy? Forget about it. The Italian striker has joined Juventus on a free transfer, the Turin-based club announced on its website Friday.

Toni, whose agent this week boasted that the Galaxy was among several clubs in pursuit of the forward, who contributed to Italy's 2006 World Cup triumph, signed a deal through June 2012, the Web site missive said. He had been playing sporadically for fellow Serie A club Genoa.

He's likely to see immediate playing time, with star forward Fabio Quagliarella out with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
