Mike Magee's selfless turn in the Galaxy's nets has been rewarded with Major League Soccer's player of the week award.
Magee, a forward/midfielder, shut out the San Jose Earthquakes for more than a half Saturday after taking over at goalkeeper following an arm injury to starter Donovan Ricketts and controversial 43rd-minute red card to backup Josh Saunders.
Magee reported afterward that he had never played between the posts, not even in a practice game, but he looked solid while making four saves -- including big stops on Bobby Convey and Steven Lenhart -- and taking command of his box in the 0-0 draw.
He's the second Galaxy player honored this season. Landon Donovan won in Week 6.
