GALAXY: Magee wins for MLS's best save

Another day, another honor for Mike Magee.

The Galaxy forward/midfielder, whose turn in goal last weekend in San Jose has become the stuff of legend, added to his Player of the Week honor by winning an online ballot for Major League Soccer's Save of the Week.

His 89th-minute, point-blank leg save on Steven Lenhart captured nearly 56 percent of the vote. The other four nominees included a stop by Donovan Ricketts before he exited the game with a broken arm.

The Magee story, one more time, in case you've missed it:

Ricketts, the Galaxy's No. 1 goalkeeper, returning to action after a fine CONCACAF Gold Cup with Jamaica, is hurt in a collision and forced to exit not 25 minutes into Saturday's clash against the Earthquakes. Backup Josh Saunders lasts not quite 20 minutes before he is red-carded, controversially, for elbowing Lenhart in the head.

With third-string goalkeeper Brian Perk back at home -- teams rarely carry more than two goalkeepers for a match -- Magee volunteered to step into the nets, pulling on Saunders' jersey and a pair of gloves and performing admirably in shutting out the Quakes for 47-plus minutes in a 0-0 draw.
