Baseball jumps a spot in latest rankings

Last week, the UCLA baseball team slid seven spots -- from No. 5 to No. 12 -- after being swept at home by No. 3 Arizona State.

The Bruins responded with a four-win week, beating Pepperdine last Tuesday and sweeping Washington in Seattle over the weekend. As a result, UCLA (34-10, 10-8 Pac-10) only moved up one spot -- to No. 11 -- in Baseball America's weekly rankings.

UCLA ascended from seventh place in the Pac-10 Conference standingsto a tie for second place. Home sets against crosstown rival USC (23-24, 5-13) and Washington State (24-17, 8-9) and a road trip to California (27-17, 11-9) still loom in the conference schedule.

UCLA will face UC Irvine (29-16) at Anteater Ballpark on Tuesday night before hosting USC in a weekend series.
