If the first week of training camp has shown coach Rick Neuheisel one thing, it's that his freshman class can play.
Running backs Malcolm Jones and Jordon James have been impressive and look as if they will be competing for carries when the season opens. Defensive backs Deitrich Riley and Jordan Zumwalt, defensive lineman Cassius Marsh and offensive linemen Wade Yandall, Kody Innes and Chris Ward have also held their own in the early going.
"One of the things about this freshman class is they love to play," Neuheisel said. "[We have] a bunch of guys trying to get to the front of the line and enjoying the competition and enjoying all that they are learning.
"This class from top to bottom is absolutely excellent. If we can continue to put these classes together, UCLA football is going to be on the map before much more time passes."
