Jordan Zumwalt takes hitting to new level

Freshman linebacker Jordan Zumwalt threw a punch at offensive lineman Darius Savage during the team's mini scrimmage Tuesday, drawing the ire of Coach Rick Neuheisel, who chastised the star recruit on the field and then after practice.

"He had to learn a lesson, you can’t throw a punch," Neuheisel said. "The officials were on the spot and would have ejected him. And that would have cost him, if it was in the second half, the whole next game. And at least the game he was in so you gotta learn that lesson and I think he did."

Zumwalt, a prep All-American from Edison High in Huntington Beach, said the linemen kept holding him and he finally lost his cool.

"I told everyone not to hold me and I had to do something about it or else they’re going to continue to hold me 24-7," Zumwalt said. "I don’t know why they are doing it, but I don’t like it. I think it may have something to do with me being a freshman, because, honestly, I don’t see any of the other linebackers getting held so I wasn’t having any of it."
