Football: Injuries add insult to UCLA loss

PASADENA -- The injury bug hit the Bruins again on Saturday.

Sophomore Damien Thigpen suffered a right clavicle fracture after he returned his first kickoff 45 yards. Sophomore receiver Jerry Johnson, making his first-career start, broke his left ankle near the end of the third quarter. He had made an 11-yard catch on the play.

Thigpen and Johnson are expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Junior middle linebacker Steve Sloan, starting in place of Patrick Larimore (dislocated shoulder), strained his left hamstring in the second quarter and did not return. True freshman Jordan Zumwalt filled in and finished with six tackles and recorded UCLA's only sack.
