The X-rays on UCLA freshman center Joshua Smith's right thumb were negative and he is listed as day to day, the school announced Friday.
Smith sprained his thumb during the first half of the Bruins' exhibition victory over Westmont Thursday night. He had nine points and four rebounds in eight minutes, but sat out the entire second half.
Doctors diagnosed a sprain, but want to take precautionary X-rays. The Bruins play Cal State Los Angeles in an exhibition on Tuesday and open the regular season against Cal State Northridge next Friday, Nov. 12.
