LOS ANGELES -- The good has barely outweighed the bad, as UCLA leads Oregon State, 29-24, at the half at Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins went on a 16-0 run midway through the half to build an 18-point lead, but the Beavers responded with a 13-2 spurt to climb back into it. This young UCLA team still lacks the killer instinct.
Malcolm Lee leads all scorers with nine points. UCLA holds a 20-19 edge on the glass but Oregon State has capitalized on 13 offensive boards. It seems like a distant memory now, but an emphatic dunk by Joshua Smith had given UCLA its biggest lead at 24-6.
UCLA didn't make a field goal in the final 5:59.
If the Bruins hang on, they would extend their 12-game win streak over Oregon State -- the longest active winning streak by a Pac-10 team over another Pac-10 team.
