UCLA defensive back Jamie Graham will have surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee and will be out three to four weeks, coach Rick Neuheisel said Tuesday.
Graham, a transfer from Vanderbilt, was expected to add some depth at a thin position for the Bruins as well as help in the return game but has not practiced since last Friday and will miss at least the Sept. 3 season opener against Houston.
Graham is a gifted athlete who played cornerback, receiver, running back and even some quarterback during his three seasons at Vanderbilt, but he missed the last month of last season after having a similar surgery. He also played two seasons on the Commodores basketball team.
Graham graduated from Vanderbilt and enrolled in UCLA graduate school so that he could take advantage of an NCAA rule that would allow him to transfer without sitting out a year.
