Chris Ward leaves practice with ankle injury

Sophomore offensive lineman Chris Ward left UCLA's football practice Tuesday afternoon with an ankle injury and trainers carted him away for X-rays. The results were not immediately known.

Ward (6-4, 330) is competing against Albert Cid and Greg Capella for one of the starting guard spots and after spending much of last week with the second team had returned to the first team this week. He sustained the injury during a two-minute drill at the end of practice and sat on the turf for about five minutes while trainers tended to him before they helped him to the sideline and then took him away on a golf cart.

"I was told it was probably just a sprain," coach Rick Neuheisel said. "I don’t think he’s that serious so we’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll have him back here shortly."
